Description

The Senior Technical Superintendent position at APL Maritime includes responsibilities in several areas of company business supporting a fleet of nine U.S. Flag container vessels operating in international trade. The position includes management of daily fleet operations ensuring vessels are operated in a safe and cost effective manner. Maintaining overview of Technical Superintendents in areas of budgets, labor relations, M&R, Safety quality and Environmental management system (SQEMS). Looking to increase fleet efficiency and reliability.

Accountabilities

  • Manage daily fleet technical operations under the Technical Directors guidance, ensuring that the vessels are operated in a safe and cost effective manner.
  • Performs all duties assigned as a Technical superintendent.
  • Responsible for guiding daily performance of all Superintendents.
  • Maintains overview of the Technical superintendents at the direction of the Technical director in the areas of: Budget Control, assisting in labor relation matters, overtime control, Ensures timely submission and accurate oversight on overdue jobs and critical machinery
  • Ensures that AML SQEMS Policy and procedures are followed shoreside and within the fleet as well as monitoring observance of company policy
  • Overview of Technical Superintendents with repair contractors and vessel Department Heads to ensure maintenance and repairs are completed satisfactorily and with economy
  • Recommend Fleet/vessel OPEX & AFE Capital Improvements & justifications for expense on Annual basis, including shore based inventory.
  • Manage as dry docks as directed which include specifications, project planning, budgets, AFE’s, scheduling, and supervising the dry dock

Qualifications

 

  1. Shipboard operational and office supervisory or management
  2. Expert knowledge in marine engineering from shore & shipboard perspectives including preventive and corrective M&R, DDX & repairs, ship acquisition/conversion, ship stability and ship structural integrity.
  3. Knowledge of Marine Operations from shore-side and shipboard perspectives
  4. Understanding of International regulatory requirements including SOLAS, MARPOL, ISM, ISPS, MLC, STCW Codes
  5. Understanding of US regulatory requirements
  6. Proficiency in ABS Nautical Systems 5 (ABS NS5)

EDUCATION/TRAINING:

Bachelor’s Degree in a marine engineering related course of study or equivalent experience.

USCG Unlimited Horsepower Chief Engineer or 1st Assistant Engineer and MMC required
